Turks and Caicos to Switch Time Zones for Extra Sun

The Caribbean island of Turks and Caicos plans to switch to a new time zone in order to gain some extra sunlight hours and hopefully boost tourism.

Like many other Western Caribbean countries this British Territory currently operates on Eastern Standard Time along with the Eastern United States but it’s been confirmed the tiny island will switch over to Atlantic Standard Time this Sunday and will be in line with Canada’s Eastern provinces.

The move is aimed at extending the sunlight hours during the winter where the sun currently starts to go down at 5pm. Employment Minister Ricardo Donhue Gardiner said this will benefit the many tourist dependent resorts, bars and restaurants  as well as “allowing our residents to enjoy a little more sunshine.”

If you needed another reason to visit this island paradise, it looks like you just got it.
