Booking your first family holiday is a time of both excitement and slight apprehension. Whilst going on holiday with your children is a great experience, it can be quite stressful, especially the first time. To make the experience one that’s sure to be a pleasure, here are a few things you should know before booking your first family holiday:

Flight Times

Although a holiday to a faraway exotic location might be just what you’re after, thinking about flight times is essential when travelling with young children. Destinations with a short flight to the Balearic Islands, France, and mainland Spain, tend to be much shorter and direct, so there’s much less time for children to get bored and agitated on a long flight. If you’re travelling as a single parent with more than one child you can request for assistance to help with bags at the airport when you book your flight.

Types of Accommodation

Depending on what you’re planning to do on holiday, there are several types of accommodation available which may appeal to your family. Hiring a private villa makes for great Tots to Travel holidays as you can do as you please and don’t have to worry about your children waking other guests up in a hotel. If you’re planning on staying in a hotel, make sure there are the required child-friendly facilities such as high chairs and cots available.

Child-Friendly Pools

One of the most crucial things to look for before booking your family holiday is whether your accommodation has a child-friendly swimming pool. This is essential for safety and can make holidaying with babies and small children much less of a worry. Most villas, hotels and resorts will specify on their website how deep the pool is, there will usually be a shallow end even if it is deep but if your children aren’t confident swimmers avoid letting them go in the water unsupervised.

Organisation

Being extra organised is one of the best ways to ensure that your family holiday goes smoothly. If you need to book transfers and travel for whilst on holiday organising it all in advance makes it much less stressful once out there. As does doing things like checking in for your flight online beforehand so that you can ensure the family are sat together. Packing the suitcase well in advance also helps, as does taking a few detergent tabs just in case you need to do any emergency washing whilst on holiday.
