Few companies have access to global trend data quite like Google.
So when the tech giant released its annual Year in Search data report, featuring the most searched-for destinations in the world, we took note. Google’s data insight team mined the trillions of search requests in 2017 to find out which hot spots are on the rise and where travelers might be planning to vacation next year, says Sophie Miura at MyDomaine.
The list had some surprising destinations. Domestic travel was top of mind for Americans this year, with Las Vegas taking the number one spot for the most searched-for city in 2017. Perhaps one of the most surprising entries is Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, which came in at number three. Beach destinations also won out, with idyllic destinations like Maldives, Bali, and Bermuda all making the cut.
If Google’s stats are any indication, this is where everyone is planning to vacation in 2018:
1. Las Vegas
2. Barcelona
3. Myrtle Beach
4. Aspen
5. Punta Cana
6. Maldives
7. Turks and Caicos
8. Bali
9. Cancun
10. Bermuda
