Venice, Italy lures in travelers from all over the world. This romantic Italian city is full of adventure from breathtaking architecture and historical buildings to museums, cafes, and gondola tours. There is plenty to see and do during your stay. That said, if you’re hoping to swim you need to know that you’re not allowed to go swimming in the Venice canals or anywhere else in the city’s center. Thankfully, there are plenty of beautiful beaches located not far from the city.

While its sparkling waters and sandy beaches make the Mediterranean side great, there are still plenty of beautiful beaches near Venice that are worth the visit. Be sure to keep an open mind because some of the nearby beaches are easily accessible to the public while others require a ferry or boat ride to one of the surrounding barrier islands. Lido di Jesolo

Lido di Jesolo may be the most popular beach among tourists and locals alike. This is because it’s conveniently close to Venice and it’s perfect for families. The water is clear, shallow and warm and is often clear and calm but as always keep your eye on the weather before heading to the beach. It’s worth noting, during the summer the beaches can become quite crowded. The best time to visit is during the off-season or at the very least, be sure to get there early to grab yourself a prime spot!

Lido di Jesolo also has lifeguards on duty who are ready to help if an emergency arises. Previous guests have noted the sand does get quite hot so be sure to bring your flip-flops! When you find yourself hungry or craving bevvy you can head to one of the beach-side bars that offer delicious food and refreshing drinks.

Bibione

Bibione may not be as popular as Lido di Jesolo but this beach destination is still worth seeing. Not to mention it may be far less crowded too. You can take a train from Venice to get to the beaches on Bibione. The train ride will take about an hour but once you reach the sea it’ll all be worth the wait!

The beaches in Bibione have a lovely smell of pine from the nearby forests that bask in the sun. Once you arrive at the beach you can rent an umbrella and chair and relax by the water all day long. There are also plenty of restaurants nearby for when you get hungry!

Sottomarina

Sottomarina beach is one of the best beaches near Venice, Italy because of its wide stretches of lush, clean sand. There are plenty of restaurants close to the beach and you can also take advantage of the umbrella, chair, and bike rentals that are provided by the nearby Hotel Mediterraneo. During low tide, the water is only about 5 feet deep making this a perfect destination for families and for young kids to play. However, if you’re the adventurous type, and are a certified scuba diver, you can explore the small natural reefs and wrecks that are located off-shore.

The beach is located about 50 minutes from Venice by car or taxi. Alternatively, you could also take a ferry which will take about an hour and 20 minutes. Aside from lounging by the water, there are plenty of other activities too. Visitors will enjoy the parks, volleyball courts, canoeing, windsurfing, and more. You can also check out the nearby town of Chioggia which is nicknamed little Venice because of its charming canals, bridges, and waterways.

Isola delle Rose

Isola delle Rose is one of the nearest beaches to Venice making it a great destination if you don’t want to travel too far. To arrive at Isola delle Rose simply take a 25-minute ferry ride from San Marco.

Travel about an hour from Venice and you’ll be welcomed by the miles of sandy shoreline called, Rosolina Mare. This beach is one of the longest and widest in the area and is certainly worth a visit. Whether you’re looking for adventure or relaxation, the beach offers something for everyone.

Visitors who are up for an excursion can enjoy horseback riding, sailing, cycling, and more. There are also volleyball courts located on the beach if you’re up for some friendly competition! There are also plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from when you’re ready to grab a bite to eat!

Albarella

If you follow the cycling trails from Rosolina Mare you will end up at Albarella, a quaint, yet luxurious private island. What makes this island spectacular is that it’s practically free of cars making it the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle so you can truly relax. Albarella also features Europe’s largest saltwater pool.

The beach boasts extremely fine, soft sand while the waters are shallow — perfect for lounging. Be sure to take advantage of the beach umbrellas, sunbeds, and deckchairs. When you’re up for an activity you can enjoy the beach volleyball, beach tennis, or beach soccer that is available. Caorle

Caorle is a quaint little beach town located near Venice, Italy. The town features two white sandy beaches, the Spiaggia de Ponte (located in the west) and the Spiaggia di Levante (located in the east). Both are blue flag-quality beaches which means the beaches have excellent water quality, safety, and services.

While the beaches may be the main attraction in Caorle there are plenty of other things to do which makes this a great vacation destination in itself. The town is rich in history which makes a great destination for exploring.
